Bishop Harrower said, ?Mr McKim?s call for ?Marriage Equality? is disingenuous.

And what is with this ?particular sort? language? ?The subtext seems to be that the good Bishop will not tolerate the ?wrong sort? getting married, and maintains this position under the disguise of ?advocating for appropriate legal protection?.

I have never understood this argument. ?How does another?s marriage affect my own? ?Are we to believe that a sudden influx of gay marriages will somehow result in a huge number of heterosexual marriages realising their vows before god mean nothing? ?Will they all suddenly run off to file for divorce, signalling the end of civilisation and life on this planet? ?Somehow, I think not.

I would encourage Bishop Harrower to revisit the Bible to see what Jesus would do in these circumstances. ?Although, since Jesus never mentioned homosexuals (not even once), we may have to extrapolate what his attitude may have been from other statements he reportedly made. ?How about we start with these poignant passages:

Obama to meet Palestinian leader amid U.N. crisis (Reuters)

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) ? President Barack Obama will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday to urge him to drop plans to ask the U.N. Security Council to recognize a Palestinian state despite U.S. and Israeli objections.

The White House said Obama will meet Abbas at 6 p.m. ET on the sidelines of this week's U.N. General Assembly session in New York. Obama is also due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier on Wednesday.

"With both the Israelis and the Palestinians the president will be able to say very directly why we believe action at the United Nations is not the way ... to achieve a (Palestinian) state," Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters.

Abbas has promised to present U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon with a membership application on Friday, setting the stage for a Security Council vote that the United States, one of five veto-wielding permanent members, says it will block.

The Obama administration and Israel both say that only direct peace talks can lead to peace with the Palestinians, who in turn say almost two decades of fruitless negotiation has left them no choice but to turn to the United Nations.

The drama over the Palestinian U.N. bid is playing out as Palestinian, Israeli and U.S. leaders all grapple with the fallout from Arab uprisings that are raising new political tensions across the Middle East.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki said he thought at least nine of the 15 members of the Security Council would back the Palestinian bid and urged the United States to get out of the way.

"We're working toward it and I think we'll manage it," Malki told reporters. "We hope the United States will revise its position and be on the side of the majority of nations or countries who want to support the Palestinian right to have self determination and independence."

A U.S. veto in the Security Council would still block approval even if most other members agree -- something that is far from certain.

But securing the nine votes necessary to claim a Security Council majority would allow the Palestinians to highlight the U.S. veto as an obstacle, increasing the diplomatic risks for Washington.

It would also raise pressure on Israel, which despite its offer of direct peace talks has not made any of the concessions that the Palestinians say would make such talks possible.

NO PROGRESS YET

Senior diplomats from the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations -- the Quartet of Middle East mediators -- are meeting throughout the week but with little sign thus far of a breakthrough.

The Quartet has been trying to put together guidelines for future peace talks for months, so far without result. British Foreign Secretary William Hague acknowledged there had been no progress.

Even if the Palestinians file their Security Council application on Friday, an immediate vote is unlikely. This may allow more time for diplomacy aimed at restarting peace talks, said French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe.

"There's a procedure for dealing with such requests and it can take a few days or weeks more, which means there is room for other initiatives," Juppe told Europe 1 radio.

"We hope to find a way of convincing all involved to get back around the negotiating table, and in a serious fashion."

Highlighting the political minefield Obama faces on the issue, Republican presidential challenger Rick Perry blasted the administration over its Middle East policy, saying U.S. peace efforts had "encouraged the Palestinians to shun direct talks."

Perry's comments were a reminder that Obama must prepare for what is shaping up as a tough campaign for re-election in 2012 and cannot afford to alienate Israel's broad support in Congress and with the American public.

In the West Bank, clashes broke out as angry Jewish settlers protested against the Palestinian plans -- another sign of growing tensions in the territory that some fear could spin dangerously out of control.

TOUGH CHOICES

Israel says the U.N. move aims to delegitimize the Jewish state. The Palestinians say their U.N. bid will open the door to new peace talks among two sovereign equals.

Direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians collapsed a year ago after Israel refused to extend a moratorium on new settlements in areas the Palestinians want for a future state.

Israel has occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip since the 1967 war, and the two sides are divided on borders, the status of Jerusalem, the future of Palestinian refugees and whether Israel should be acknowledged as a Jewish state.

The Palestinians want the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for their future state, with East Jerusalem as their capital.

With a U.S. veto certain at the Security Council, the Palestinians may also ask the U.N. General Assembly to upgrade them from an "entity" to a "non-member state." Such a step, they say, would be backed by at least 126 of the assembly's 193 members and give further legitimacy to their claim.

The Palestinian decision to force a confrontation at the United Nations has cast new doubt over the Obama administration's effort to harness the "Arab Spring" uprisings to forge a new set of U.S. relationships in the Middle East.

"A U.S. veto ... will be seen by the region as once again a double-standard policy of selectively standing by certain people in the region yearning for freedom, but not others," said Marwan Muasher, a former Jordanian foreign minister and now vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment.

Windows 8 Speed Tests: It's Faster at Pretty Much Everything [Video]

Microsoft mentioned a few times that Windows 8 was supposed to bring a hefty performance boost along with it, and we were curious just how much speed you'd gain just by installing it. We ran a few speed tests with each, and here's how they compare.

Note: As with all our Windows 8 coverage this week, this is all based on the developer preview of Windows. At the time of this writing, we still have a year before Windows 8 is officially released, so things are subject to change, but these are our preliminary tests of the fledgling operating system.

Instead of performing a bunch of synthetic benchmarks, we performed a number of everyday tests to get an idea of if one's user experience would actually feel faster. All tests were performed on a clean installation of the OS, with the same programs installed. Overall, we found both to be pretty similar in performance, with a few exceptions.

The following tests were performed on an (overclocked) 3.8 GhZ i7 machine with 6GB of RAM, a 2TB hard drive, an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT, and connected to the internet over Ethernet at a maximum speed of 20mbps.

So what do all these numbers mean?

Windows 8 seemed to win in every section except for the application starts, which it tied with Windows 7. Really, though, most of the scores were close enough that you wouldn't necessarily notice it in your day-to-day work, unless maybe you were on a low-powered machine, where the differences would be greater. Either way, it's nice to know that there definitely aren't any speed decreases in Windows 8.

The big exception to this is the boot time?Windows 8's boot times were significantly faster than Windows 7's, which is something we know Microsoft made a big effort in. However, I did find that Windows 8's boot times were a little finickier than can be described in the table?sometimes I would get boot times more comparable to Windows 7, and sometimes it would be super fast. Right now, I'm chalking this up to quirks in the developer preview, since I'd seen it go fast on numerous occasions. We'll see how that changes in a year when the final version launches, but for right now, we're going to assume that this goal of fast boot times is resulting in some pretty hefty speed increases. Greek PM cancels U.S. trip as debt crisis deepens

ATHENS?? Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou canceled a planned visit to the United States on Saturday to deal with a deepening crisis at home, days before European Union and IMF inspectors decide on further funding for the debt-ridden country.

Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos rushed to allay fears the canceled trip signaled imminent default, saying such talk was "ridiculous," but the conservative opposition seized the opportunity to demand snap elections, fanning fears Greece lacks the will needed for tough measures ahead.

"The comments and analyses about an imminent default or bankruptcy are not only irresponsible but also ridiculous," Venizelos said in a statement.

"Every weekend Greece ... is subject to this organised attack by speculators in international markets."

Papandreou was in London, en-route to United Nations and International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings, when he decided to turn back after discussing developments with Venizelos, government officials said.

"The prime minister judged that he should not be away. He wants to ensure that all of Greece's commitments (to its EU partners) are fulfilled," government spokesman Ilias Mossialos told Reuters.

A government official speaking on condition of anonymity told Reuters pressure was high on Athens from euro zone partners to take additional measures to merit continued funding from a 110 billion euro ($150 billion) bailout to avert default.

"There is an issue of trust. Our partners want very specific steps and commitments and our record so far unfortunately does not inspire confidence," said the official.

Next week, Greece is due to resume talks with EU and IMF inspectors who will judge fiscal progress before releasing the next 8 billion euro loan tranche in October.

Greece has said it has cash until next month.

"It's a sign that things are very tight. Papandreou's presence is crucial to make sure there are no setbacks with issues that need to be resolved," said Theodore Krintas, head of wealth management at Attica Bank.

ELECTION CALL

The conservative opposition New Democracy party, which voted against the bailout that saved Greece from bankruptcy last year, seized the opportunity to make a fresh call for snap elections.

"The only solution is elections, so that the people's will is expressed," New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras said in a speech in the northern city of Thessaloniki.

New Democracy, which is leading the ruling socialists in opinion polls, says the policy mix used cannot bring Greece out of the crisis and austerity measures were stifling the economy.

The conservatives are riding a wave of public discontent after two years of austerity measures and are proposing tax cuts and growth boosting measures instead.

"When a policy hurts my country, I will surely say no. Why should I co-sign a mistake?" Samaras said. "We want this destructive policy toppled."

Apart from the slow pace of reforms and fiscal slippages, international lenders are most concerned with the lack of political consensus in Greece. Even if elections are held in 2013 as planned, the next government must apply agreed policies for the country to recover.

The ruling socialists have a majority in parliament but political analysts say internal dissent and public unrest, such as strikes and violent protests, may prompt snap elections.

Fiscal slippage this year, which the government blamed on a deeper-than-projected recession, forced Athens to slap a levy on property to make up for the shortfall as a target of capping its budget deficit at 7.6 percent of gross domestic product looked out of reach.

Lenders have long warned against one-off measures and more taxes as a way out of the crisis shaking the euro. They have asked for urgent reforms and privatisations and a drastic shrinking of the bloated public sector.

EU economic and monetary affairs commissioner Olli Rehn has said inspectors from the European Central Bank, EU and IMF would report back on progress in early October, meaning the next disbursement of aid to Greece could be paid by mid-October.

A second 109 billion euro bailout agreed in July, after it became clear Greece would not be able to return to bond markets, has also hit snags.

Euro zone partners are asking for collateral before giving Athens more cash and banks are slow to participate in a bond swap scheme key to the deal.

Papandreou was to meet United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in New York on Sunday and IMF head Christine Lagarde on Tuesday. Venizelos is still due to attend an IMF meeting in Washington later in the week.

Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901

The Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 ($59.99 list) is a full QWERTY keyboard shrunken down to the size of a standard smartphone texting pad. If you're looking for a nice-looking remote keypad for your home entertainment system, the Lenovo Mini Keyboard will play, pause, and adjust your volume, so long as you're within a 15-foot radius. However, it lacks a few key features that a HTPC (home theater PC) keyboard should have, like backlit keys and better mouse integration.

Look and Feel
The N5901 has a unique shape. It resembles a ping-pong paddle, only the paddle portion is more a rounded rectangular shape. The keypad makes up the paddle, and the trackball and mouse buttons make up the handle. Between the trackball and the keypad are the left- and right-click mouse buttons. I would have preferred if the trackball was placed directly below the keypad and the mouse buttons were on the top of the device-like trigger buttons on a game controller?it would have made it easier to toggle between navigating and typing on the device. As it is, you have to hold the protruding handle to navigate and click the mouse buttons, and if you want to type on the keypad you have to move your hands to a completely new position. I think that the layout of the Wireless N5901 could have been better thought-out like the Logitech diNovo Mini ($149.99 direct, 4.5 stars), which provides such a wonderful example of how to integrate mouse buttons and a trackpad into a keypad. The diNovo Mini has a rounded rectangular shape, and its trackpad is located on the top right corner where your thumb can easily switch between navigating and typing.

The keypad and trackball has a glossy black frame that will attract finger prints and smudge marks. The underside of the keyboard has a soft touch matte finish that helps prevent slippage when gripping or holding the device.

The trackball was a little too sensitive for my taste?personally I prefer a little more weight to my trackball. The keypad's keys are about the same size as those of the Motorola Droid 3. However, the keys are not backlit, a major caveat considering this keyboard will be used in dim lighting with a home theater PC. Across the top of the keypad are a number of buttons dedicated to multimedia function, like play/pause, stop, volume up and down, mute, and skip forward and back commands, a necessity on any HTPC keyboard.

On the underside of the keyboard, where you put the three AAA batteries in (included), there's a place to store the nano USB receiver in case you decide to take your Mini Wireless N5901 mobile. There's also an on/off switch to help conserve battery life when you're not using the device.

Features
The N5901 connects to your computer via a USB receiver that plugs into the USB port. It transmits over a 2.4GHz wireless frequency, and in our clustered lab full of wireless devices it didn't quite live up to its 32-foot range. I was about 15 feet away when it started to muddle my typing of "The quick brown fox."

There's no software that you need to download? just plug it in, and you're pretty much ready to go. When you first plug in the USB receiver to your PC, there's a driver that downloads automatically, so make sure you're connected to the Internet at the time.

The Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 is a good solution if you're looking for a keyboard/mouse combo remote for your HTPC. But it lacks key features like backlighting for the keyboard, and the range that it can be used is less than advertised. The Editors' Choice diNovo Mini is the best of the lot, with features that include backlighting, bigger keys, and it has a Bluetooth and wireless USB dongle solution to connect to your devices. Its $150 asking price, however, is one that not many people will want to pay.
