For the most part, drafting is a simple concept. You like something, and no one else holds the rights to that liked something, you take it. People probably drafted in a Pavlovian manner back in simpler times. Things have become much more complicated in these Twenty-tens, with Brad Pitt inventing Moneyball and such. We plot on, however, picking great things beer, wine, spirits, food, or lagniappe. This is the 2012 Anything Mock Draught, y'all.

With the second pick in the 2012 Anything Mock Draught, K Dub selects:

When you picture the wine making process, what one thing comes to mind? Stomping grapes? Stainless fermentation vessels? Grapes growing on the vine? Well, you might. But being the homebrewer that I am, I think about barrel aging. Barrel aging (especially in the case of most red wines) is the longest part of the wine making process. I don't know how those winemaker guys do it, the constant reminder of ends on ends of stacks and rows of barrels every day. So much delicious liquid just waiting, aging, developing, improving and just waiting for that perfect moment to be bottled and shared with the masses. All thanks to magic that lies within the oak barrel.

So how does a barrel create all that flavor? Well, like most plants there are many variables, soil types, location, breed of plant, climate patterns, etc. On top of environmental factors that the tree goes through during its life, there are only man made factors that can affect a barrel's flavor such as toasting the barrel. So there are literally an unlimited number (well I'm sure J.R. could calculate an exact number) of variables that could affect the final flavor of barrel. And to add to it, no matter how hard the cooperage's try, there are always variations from barrel to barrel. It is common for brewers to have a barrel or two that don't taste right or just plain suck, so instead of blending those two barrels in small amounts with the rest of the bottles to get a higher yield (more bottles to sell), they have been known to dump the barrels.

The same goes with whiskey (I'm guessing here). They taste the barrels, and if a few barrels exhibit great flavors, they get the Grade A Gold Star label and the rest gets blended into the mass marketed items. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but I don't know what I'm talking about. Thank you oh massive oak tree for giving your life so that human adults (21 years and older) could enjoy liquids that have taken the flavors and aromas that have taken years to develop from your burned cellulose.

After running three days and nights, they were captured by Kenyan troops and brought to a refugee camp where Lopez lived for 10 years. He was sponsored by a U.S. family and brought to this country where he soon discovered he was the fastest kid in school. At track meets he then discovered he was the fastest in the state. Soon he would become one of the fastest in the nation. In 2008, Lomong qualified for the Beijing Olympics in the men?s 1,500 meters. He was voted by his teammates as the flag bearer in the Opening Ceremonies. Four years later, the young man who had so much taken from him ? wants to give something back to the children of South Sudan.

UPS And FedEx Win Big With Access To Chinese Express Delivery Market

China has approved the domestic business licenses of US-based international logistics companies FedEx and UPS. The two now hope to take a bigger bite out of the fast expanding Chinese delivery market.

With core services in the air cargo segment, FedEx and UPS will compete to divert market share in the domestic air cargo away from Chinese domestic company China Air Transport Association and other local delivery companies like SF Express, Yunda, YTO Express and Shentong Express. Until now, foreign firms like FedEx and UPS could deliver packages from abroad to destinations in China, but were excluded from domestic delivery i.e. packages sent between locations in China. The new regulation will cover domestic express parcels but will still exclude FedEx and UPS from competing in the mainland China domestic document/letter delivery market.

SC man convicted of raping dying cancer patient

CHARLESTON, S.C. --?

A 56-year-old homeless man has been convicted of raping a dying cancer patient at a Mount Pleasant hospice center.

Circuit Judge Markley Dennis concluded Thursday that Calvin Dean Williams was guilty but mentally ill on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary.

The 86-year-old woman died from cancer eight days after the attack.

Dennis sentenced Williams to 30 years in prison. Williams could be held as a sexual predator after his sentence.

Prosecutors say Williams entered The Hospice Center through an unlocked door around 3 a.m. in February 2011. A nurse heard a scream and found Williams with the woman.

Defense attorney Cody Groeber had asked for a 15-year sentence, saying Williams needed medication and supervision. Groeber says Williams lost his parents as a teen and eventually lived in McClellanville.

The left's dangerous 'SWAT-ting'

If you don?t already know what ?SWAT-ting? is, you need to know, and you need to know now.

The political left in the United States has long used a variety of lies, intimidation tactics and other intellectually dishonest means to quell debate and silence dissent. Democrats, liberals and ?progressives,? regardless of how they choose to describe themselves, loathe honest debate. Their ideas don?t stand up to scrutiny because their philosophies are self-destructive, their ?science? junk and their assertions false. Pick any widely argued issue and you will find no end of lies told by liberals about the topic. The goal of these lies? It?s always to prop up a political philosophy that can?t stand on its own. Democrats want power, and they don?t care who or what gets hurt, be those casualties the truth, civil discourse, or your family. This includes ?SWAT-ting.?

Earlier this month, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding an investigation into the tactic. ?SWAT-ting? is so named because it involves tricking emergency response personnel into believing a call for help has been placed from the victim?s home.

?These dangerous hoaxes, also known as ?SWAT-ting,? occur when a perpetrator contacts local police to report a violent incident at a target?s home,? reads the senator?s press release. ?These callers are believed to utilize voice-over IP (VOIP) and other less-traditional telecommunications methods to make the call appear to come from the target residence and to hide the caller?s true identity. ? Targets only learn of these false reports when a large police presence descends upon their homes.?

To ?SWAT? someone is obviously to cause them a great deal of unnecessary hassle, but what few have stated outright is that it is nothing less than an attempt to murder your target. Consider the recent law passed in Indiana, making that state the first to permit citizens to shoot police officers in self-defense. Through the years, and driven by the increasing militarization of police forces, a number of innocent citizens have been terrorized, injured, or even killed when they tried to fire back against what they thought were home invaders. This was because police entered their homes unlawfully ? most commonly because they were simply at the wrong address (a problem not limited to this country).

At the heart of the ?SWAT-ting? phenomenon seems to be someone named Brett Kimberlin, a convicted felon whom the Spokane Conservative Examiner?s Joe Newby described (quoting The Blaze) as a ?[d]rug dealer, alleged child molester, and convicted perjurer, forger and Indiana Speedway Bomber (who is also believed to have played a role in the assassination of a grandmother).? Alleged by The Blaze to be funded by frequent conservative bogeyman and liberal powerbroker George Soros, Kimberlin appears to be a liberal operative with a long history of direct action against conservatives.

Kimberlin?s targets, allege prominent conservative columnists and bloggers like Michelle Malkin, Robert Stacy McCain, Aaron Walker, Mandy Nagy, et al., are the conservative bloggers themselves. McCain says his wife?s employer was contacted by Kimberlin in an attempt to cause trouble for her at her workplace. ?Kimberlin,? says McCain, as quoted by Joe Newby, ?has used a strategy of legal intimidation and workplace harassment in an apparent attempt to silence his critics. ??

Those critics include Aaron Walker. Walker?s case is particularly telling; he has been locked in a legal battle with Kimberlin for some time. Kimberlin won a ?peace order hearing? in May (following the implementation of a temporary peace order) after claiming that Aaron Walker was harassing him (by blogging about Kimberlin?s violent criminal history). Walker was even arrested for violating the temporary order. He fought back, however, and won a temporary stay of the gag order forbidding him to blog about Kimberlin.

Then he was ?SWAT-ted.?

That?s right: Shortly after winning a minor legal point against Kimberlin, the conservative against whom Kimberlin has been fighting was targeted for murder in his own home.

Walker revealed the incident on Twitter shortly after it happened. This comes as no surprise, as Twitter has become a rallying point for conservative writers speaking out against the dangerous and cowardly ?SWAT-ting? attacks. Walker reported that his wife was safe ? so often, it is the spouses of their enemies that liberals target for harassment, assault and death ? but that obviously the couple had been through quite an ordeal. Apparently he opened his door to discover two law enforcement officers holding M4 carbines (Walker says he recognized these from video games). Who knows what may have happened had these men performed a forcible entry on the Walker home?

As allegations of such vile tactics continue to swirl, Kimberlin himself claims he and his associates have been ?SWAT-ted.? This is widely seen among Kimberlin?s conservative opposition as a ploy; according to Michelle Malkin?s Twitchy, bloggers are actively working to debunk it. Certainly the coincidental nature of the claim cannot be ignored. Aaron Walker himself stated, on Twitter, that his court win against Kimberlin, followed so quickly by his ?SWAT-ting,? could hardly be happenstance.

No less a wretched liberal Democrat than Hillary Clinton once famously screeched that we are Americans, and we have a right to debate and to disagree with any administration. Under Glorious Leader Obama, as hissed by bug-eyed reptiles like Nancy Pelosi, criticism of liberals is un-American. The left has worked hard in recent years to marginalize and even criminalize dissent (remember Obama?s Department of Homeland Security redefining as domestic terrorists all political demographics unlikely to vote for Obama). The employment of a tactic like ?SWAT-ting,? used expressly and explicitly to silence the criticism of those who have relatively little power and almost no political influence, is simply the logical extension of this movement.

This is the least you need to know about ?SWAT-ting? and Brett Kimberlin: Liberals are intellectually bankrupt cowards who would rather silence you than debate you. Much, much worse is the fact that they will murder you if they can. Ultimately, force is the only coin they recognize, violence the only currency in which they trade.

We took a Dell XPS 13, one of the sleekest, sexiest ultrabooks on the market, and designed a docking station that incorporated everything the computer was lacking and then some. We realize that a motherboard?s appearance is usually only of importance to the most die-hard enthusiasts?you know, the kinds of people who have cases with side-panel windows and work fastidiously to ensure there?s no dust inside?but the ECS Z77H2-AX, designed for Intel?s LGA1155 socket, would be a head-turner for anyone. Adorning the jet-black PCB are shimmering gold-colored accents that make the board?s crucial parts?the socket cover, heat sinks, the resistors, rear-panel ports, and even their associated I/O plate?into 24-karat eye candy. Is that alone enough to justify the Z77H2-AX?s platinum-plated price of $309.99? For most people, probably not. But if you consider aesthetics a make-or-break feature, you won?t find a better motherboard than this.

It?s worth pointing out that, according to ECS, the benefits of all the gold aren?t just visual. The gold plating on the CPU pins, memory sockets, and PCI Express (PCIe) slots reportedly increase stability up to three times, and on the cooling modules speed thermal dissipation; ECS also touts their ?anti-oxidation, anti-rust, and anti-moisture? benefits. Those qualities are difficult for us to test, but there?s no doubt that they up the Z77H2-AX?s luxury factor by an order of magnitude or two.

Because of its socket, the ATX-form-factor Z77H2-AX will work for you whether you want to load it with a processor from the current third-generation Core (aka ?Ivy Bridge?) family or from last year?s Sandy Bridge line. If you want, two video outputs (VGA and HDMI) let you take advantage of the CPU?s integrated graphics system, with LucidLogix?s Virtu Universal MVP GPU Virtualization providing dynamic switching between integrated and discrete graphics. If you don?t want, there are three PCIe x16 slots version 3.0 slots for installing up to three discrete video cards using either AMD?s or Nvidia?s GPUs (though, if you use three cards, the third slot will run at x8 rather than x16, due to limitations with the PCIe bus). The Intel Z77 Express chipset the motherboard uses allows you to overclock the CPU and specify a solid-state drive (SSD) for use in data caching by way of Intel?s Smart Response Technology. All this suggests a motherboard stuffed to the gills with gaming-friendly features, and a look at the rest of the Z77H2-AX certainly bears this out. Four memory slots support up to 32GB of dual-channel DDR3 1600 RAM (or DDR3 2800 when overclocked). The Intel drive controller lets you connect two 3Gbps SATA II devices and two 6Gbps SATA III devices (with RAID Levels 0, 1, 5, and 10 all options); a secondary ASMedia ASM1061 controller provides two additional SATA III ports. The expansion slot roster is rounded out with two PCIe x1 slots, two regular PCI slots, and even a Mini PCIe x1 slot for connecting an additional device (such as an mSATA card for use with SRT, a feature we previously saw last generation in the Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD).

In addition to the aforementioned VGA and HDMI outputs, on the rear panel you?ll find eight USB ports (four each of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0), two 6Gbps eSATA ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port (RealTek RTL 8111E), an S/PDIF jack, five ports for utilizing the integrated eight-channel audio system (RealTek ALC892), a button to clear the CMOS, and the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi receivers. Want even more ports on your system? You can add four more USB ports (two each USB 3.0 and USB 2.0) through the use of the onboard headers; ECS has even prepared you for their use by including a USB 3.0 panel designed to fit in one of your case?s external 3.5-inch drive bays.

The Z77H2-AX boasts a number of additional technologies as well. On the proprietary side, ECS Super Alloy Choke promises a 50-percent increase in system stability by increasing energy efficiency, better maintaining operating temperatures, and reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI). EZ Charger provides three times more current through the motherboard?s USB ports than is usually the case, so you can charge your devices more quickly. ECS?s fully graphical UEFI offers an excellent (and mouse-compatible) way to tweak your system settings.

Performance of the Z77H2-AX (when using a Core i7-3770K processor) on our suite of benchmark tests was generally in line with what we?ve seen from other first-wave Ivy Bridge motherboards, if more often than not on the lower end of the spectrum. The one area in which the Z77H2-AX stood out, however, was power usage. We measured the draw of our full test-bed system, which also used an Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 video card, with an Extech Datalogger both at idle and with all the CPU cores pegged. In both cases the Z77H2-AX used the most electricity: 85 watts for the former, and 158.5 watts for the latter. By way of comparison, the lowest-power Ivy Bridge motherboard we?ve tested so far, the Intel Desktop Board DZ77GA-70K drew only 71.2 watts when idle and 136.3 watts under full load.

For most users, a motherboard?s power draw isn?t going to be a deal-breaker?but the ECS EZ77H2-AX is already among the most expensive Ivy Bridge?ready models you can buy. If you?re primarily concerned about in-box extras, you?ll get more of them overall with the Editors? Choice Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe?which also costs less ($284.99 list) and uses less power. Even if the EZ77H2-AX isn?t the all-around champ, it?s a fine LGA1155 motherboard with dazzling beauty that no others on the market can currently match.

Shelter Revolution: Homeless Pets Never Have To Be Euthanized ...

Animal activist Randy, known only by his first name for the safety of himself and his family, and a handful of others are in the middle of a battle to save every homeless cat and dog in the U.S. Their fight is unique because they?are saving?pets from the U.S. animal shelter system which they say is broken beyond repair. Randy is calling for a Shelter Revolution.

The Shelter Revolution movement says, ?Current municipal animal shelters are prisons that breed anxiety, depression and aggression in homeless pets.? Dogs are forced to live in isolation or in crowded conditions in cages where they smell the scent of death every day. Animals are warehoused until they are euthanized. The purpose of the current system is to control strays from roaming on the streets. It is not a system that can be reformed; it must be completely restructured.

Shelter Revolution sees a clear solution in a model that is based on human day care centers and dog day care centers. The Adoption Center concept allows animals to live in a natural communal setting.

Randy said, ?Research shows these settings promote calm, balanced pets that are more easily adopted.?

Separated by size and personality, animals live in a dorm-like setting with an outside play area for socializing and exercise. Randy said, ?Killing is not an option. Rehab and rehoming animals is the goal.?

If you think this sounds like a pipedream, Shelter Revolution offers more than a dozen privately owned shelters and sanctuaries where the concept is already working.

The Cat House on the Kings is a sanctuary outside of Fresno CA, run by Lynea Lattanzio. It is a no-kill, cage free facility?with an amazing 800?felines and 50 dogs. Lynea?s philosophy about the rescued cats that wander on her property is, ?If they don?t have a home, at least they have a life.?

Make no mistake, Shelter Revolution does not promote animal hoarding. Their plan includes a medical center for sick animals, a quarantine area for new arrivals, spay and neuter, and rehabilitation. The model relies heavily on volunteers to socialize and train the pets so they can be adopted. Randy believes animal rescue groups that spend much of their time now rescuing strays, will flock to Adoption Centers to help rehabilitate homeless pets.

Cost to start an Adoption Center is estimated at $1.3 million. Shelter Revolution says current animal shelters are far more expensive. Their website gives many details about starting a Shelter Revolution in a community.

?For 100 years the shelter industry has imprisoned social animals in prison cages. It?s time shelter directors realize that the facility itself can play a central role in promoting adoptions. It is time to move beyond this plateau and create a new model.

Police are investigating the shooting of two teenage girls in a small Texas community along the Gulf of Mexico. KRIS reporter Lindsay Curtis has the story.

Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for their assailants.

Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a nature area in Portland by a couple Saturday, said Portland Police Chief Randy Wright, who confirmed to msnbc.com details first reported by the Corpus Christi Caller Times.

Olgin, originally from Ingleside but recently living in Corpus Christi, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday, local NBC affiliate kristv.com reported. Wright said Chapa was still in the hospital on Monday.

Friends told kristv.com that the girls had been together five months. Wright said he didn?t have any information about their relationship, noting that ?we understood from their friends that they were (in a romantic relationship). I know from ? Mollie?s parents that they were very close.?

When asked if police had been able to determine if the girls' sexuality played any role in the shootings, Wright told msnbc.com: ?That?s always something that we?re looking for, but as of this point, we have not been able to establish that that had anything to do with the attack.?

He said they had been in communication with Chapa. He noted all indications were that ?third parties? were involved in the assault.

?If we had a name, you know, we?d be having a different conversation right now. But we have not been able to gather enough information to identify a suspect yet,? he said. ?It appears as if ? this was not just a random attack but that?s something that we really have to develop over time.?

Wright said police had recovered a bullet casing from a large-caliber gun at the scene, but they haven?t found the weapon. A resident living nearby reported hearing two loud bangs Friday before midnight but believed?they were?from firecrackers, the newspaper said.

The park, more of nature area with some parts overgrown and no lights, was generally frequented by visitors during the day. It is located along a bluff overlooking a bay, Wright said, with some homes situated nearby.

?We?re not really sure how they got to the point that they were found,? he said of the girls. ?It is a scenic overlook with a wooden deck and there is a place at the edge of the deck where you can actually go down a very steep incline into a grassy area that leads down to the shoreline and that?s where they found.?

Friends of the girls gathered at a local high school on Sunday. Olgin's roommate, Samantha Garrett, told kristv.com that the fun-loving couple hadn?t gotten any negative responses to their relationship and could not think of why anyone would want to harm them.

The crime rate is low in Portland, a bedroom community of Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico, Wright said. The last homicide occurred two years ago.

Garmin is adding a new product to its line-up of fitness watches, and this one is dedicated to workouts of the aquatic variety. The Garmin Swim tracks your distance swam, average pace, workout time and more, and it uploads those stats to the web to help monitor your progress. Though it's meant to be a part of your exercise routine, the Garmin Swim watch looks like your average plastic digi-timepiece. The watch has six buttons with functions for viewing the time of day, scrolling through the menu options, controlling the timer, viewing the menu and entering workout mode. The setup takes some getting used to, but the illustrative icons on the watch helped us get into the rhythm quickly.

Getting started with the Swim simply entails entering the size of your pool, with options to measure in yards or meters. Once that info is uploaded, you press the swim button and are ready to get splashing. We spent a solid half-hour doing laps, and the Swim duly recognized and recorded that we varied our strokes. Stopping the timer each time we took a break created a new interval for our workout, with a rundown of the elapsed time, distance in meters, number of strokes, type of stroke, total laps, average speed and calories burned. That's a lot of data to pore over, and Garmin lets you wirelessly upload it all to the Garmin Connect site. To do this, you have to pair the watch with your computer using a USB ANT stick: once it works, it's an efficient, easy way to review your workout, but it took us a few tries before our laptop recognized the watch. Garmin says the watch's battery will last a full year, which is plenty of time to log some serious laps. For more about the Swim, check out the press info past the break.
