Sony's new handheld won't be here for Christmas, but you may want to save some cash for February
Sony's new PlayStation Vita handheld will make it to Japan in time for the upcoming holiday shopping season, but gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until early next year to get a taste. The company just announced that the flashy new gadget will hit U.S. and European markets on February 22, 2012.
We went hands-on with the PS Vita at E3 earlier this year, and we were quite pleased with Sony's successor to the PSP. The handheld is extremely powerful and capable of graphics on par with many modern home game consoles. The Vita's vibrant widescreen display is touch sensitive, and there's an additional touch pad on the back for extra control options when playing your favorite titles.
Sony has always played second fiddle to Nintendo in the mobile gaming space, with Nintendo's DS system selling millions more units than the PSP. With the release ? and subsequent less-than-enthusiastic consumer response ? of the Nintendo 3DS, the door is open for Sony to show potential buyers what gaming on the go is all about.
