Party organizer Tyler O?Connelli is on the fast track to her dream career. She?s so close she can almost taste it. But when she returns to her family and sees her one-night stand, Alex Keller, all done up in his cowboy gear, her self-control is stretched to the breaking point?.
They?re worlds apart. She?s a busy career girl, and Alex is a cowboy. But while getting together might not bode well for anything long-term, it more than makes up for it in sheer hot chemistry! Problem is, this is one wrangler she might want to get tied down?and tied up?to?indefinitely!
I am a sucker for a cowboy book. Seriously, nothin better than a story about a boy/man and a horse, a big cowboy hat and some hot luvin. ( I KNOW I can?t believe I just wrote that sentence either. I?ll hurt myself for it later). So When I saw Should?ve Been a Cowboy come up online on NetGalley, I knew I was going to read it.
Tyler is a career driven cruise party planning director and she loves her job. She LOVES it. When she comes back face to face with Alex, the man she shared a hot closet one night stand encounter with 10 months ago she wants him but also realizes that a relationship will cause her to lose what she loves most about herself, her career.
This is an intreguing story about a woman who loves her career which makes a real relationship virtually impossible and a guy who recently found himself, understands how important finding yourself in your career is and still wants you, but is willing to let you be yourself. I?d even go as far as to say that Alex qualifies as a Beta hero, he?s not pushy he?s not going to tell or to force, he?s only going to let you chose what you want, but he will seduce you into wanting him as well.
Thats exactly what happened in Should?ve Been a Cowboy, Tyler ends up wanting a real relationship with Alex and things ?conveniently? WAY WAY too conveniently in my opinion (but we?ll come back to that) come together which allows her to get what she wants career wise and also get the guy.
In the mean time Should?ve Been a Cowboy is an interesting story about modern women, who want what to know who they are and want careers and have to chose between men and self fulfillment. I LOVED how? Ms. Thompson didn?t make this easy on Tyler, she made this decision achingly difficult which it is. She didn?t demean the meaning of the conflict between job and family which was wonderful to see.
The chemistry between Tyler and Alex was positively electric and by the end of Should?ve Been a Cowboy their relationship was one I really wanted to see succeed. One major problem I have is when things wrap up too neatly. This was one of those books where its tied too tightly with too nice of a bow. It cheapens an otherwise good story.
