Vacations are wonderful aren?t they? We recently got back from a week-long family vacation and it was just what the doctor ordered.
LK would ask how would I know what the doctor ordered since I haven?t been in years, but that?s another story.
I think vacations are wonderful for what they are not about as much as for what they are.
Vacations ARE?NOT about:
- chores
- diets & exercise
- deadlines
- to-do lists
- bills
Vacations ARE about:
- family time (both quality AND quantity)
- fun
- laughter
- games
- ice cream
- adventure
An unintended benefit of our recent family vacation was clarity. A reality check if you will.
Lately, I have felt somewhat fatigued by all the responsibility of being an adult while actively trying to discover and chase a focused dream (hence all the writing and reading). I was in desperate need of a break. A vacation was just the ticket.
A vacation is a getaway. That is the point. To ?get away? from the hustle of the daily grind and suck in lungfuls of fresh air. We spent time with extended family (LK?s grandpa is pushing 99 years old), ate a big pancake breakfast at a killer car show, kicked up sand at the beach for a few days, enjoyed ice cream for lunch and even visited Mount St. Helens.
It was a slice of Heaven. If Heaven was a double scoop waffle cone of Tillamook Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream.
If you?re feeling stuck in a rut or lost wandering in the fog I urge you to take a vacation. It doesn?t have to be lavish and expensive, but get out-of-town for a few days. See some new sights. Spend time with people who love you.
When was the last time you took a vacation? Where did you go? What is your favorite flavor/brand of ice cream?
